Cochrane is an international not-for-profit and independent organisation, dedicated to making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare, readily available worldwide. Reviews are prepared by healthcare professional volunteers who work with Cochrane Review Groups. The editorial teams of these Groups oversee the preparation and maintenance of the reviews. Cochrane reviews have become internationally well-known as the pre-eminent rigorous quality standard for systematic reviews. Cochrane was founded in 1993 and named after the British epidemiologist, Archie Cochrane.
Our major product is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews which is published as part of the Cochrane Library.
The activities of Cochrane are directed by an elected Governing Board and supported by staff in Cochrane Groups (Centres, Review Groups, Methods Groups, Fields/Networks) around the world.
